July 2008 Patient of the Month
Suffield Veterinary Hospital again sponsored a “Why My Pet Is Special” essay contest for third and fourth graders at McAlister School.  The winner receives an owner/pet portrait from Motophoto in Enfield, and the honor of seeing the essay and portrait published in the Suffield Observer.  Of the dozens we were privileged to read, many stood out for their humorous stories, wonderful writing and touching emotional content.  Honorable mention goes to Luke M. Lobo and Abby, Andrea Maffei and Jair, and to Olivia Motherway and Zoey.
Below, we are proud to present to you our 2008 essay contest winner, Mackenzie Bourdeau and her dog Bailey.  All of the essays can be viewed on our website, www.suffieldvet.com/POM

Why My Pet Is Special

Mackenzie Bourdeau

My dog Bailey is special to me because whenever I have a problem and can’t tell anyone else what I’m feeling, I can always tell her.  It really seems like she’s listening.  When I had an argument with my BFF, I felt like I couldn’t tell anyone, so I went to Bailey.  I told her everything in a whisper and we were together in a room.  She looked me in the eyes the whole time and looked like she was feeling the same emotions that I was.

Bailey is also special to me because we are always there for each other.  When I was sick, I would lie on the couch and Bailey snuggled close to me the whole day.  When she had a foot infection she wouldn’t let my dad soak her paw.  I tried and I could leave her for 10 minutes and she wouldn’t move.

I love Bailey because it seems like she can understand me.  When I talk to her she will perk up her ears and I know that she really is listening.  I love Bailey!
