Companion Classes
Our
companion classes teach you how to have the
dog you always wanted using positive
reinforcement and proper management to get
desired behavior. These classes are for the
whole family and are fun as well as
informative. Classes are small and
individualized and are offered on days,
nights and weekends for your convenience.
Family Dog I
An introductory class for dogs of all ages
that are just beginning training. You will
learn to teach your dog to be attentive,
come when called, walk politely on leash,
stay and lie down. Management skills,
socialization and problem solving will also
be stressed. The first class is mandatory
and dogs do not attend.
Puppy Kindergarten
An introductory class for puppies under 16
weeks at the start of class. This class
teaches the same skills as Family Dog I with
more emphasis placed on puppy issues like
house training and inappropriate mouthing
and biting. The first class is mandatory and
puppies do not attend.
Family Dog II
A continuation of Family Dog I or Puppy
Kindergarten. You will use the skills you
have learned in your previous class to teach
your dog to respond reliably during
increased exposure to distractions. You will
also finish training the Really Reliable
Recall, teach control at a distance and
prepare your dog to pass the AKC Canine Good
Citizenship Test. Dogs do not attend the
first class.
Companion-N-Therapy Dog I
This is for graduates of FDII. This class is
taught in
conjunction with members of Tails of Joy, a
therapy
dog assisted organization. If you are
interested in
therapy work this class will give you a
chance to
advance your training to the next level and
will give
you a real sense of whether therapy work is
for you.
Companion-N-Therapy Dog II
This is for graduates of Companion-N-Therapy
Dog I
who have been approved by the instructors.
This class specifically prepares owners and
dogs for the Delta Society Pet Partners
Program Animal Test.
Versatility
This is for dogs that have completed FDI,
FDII or PK. If you are interested in doing
more with your dog, but aren't sure what
direction to go this class is for you.
Topics will include disc, agility,
freestyle, flyball, competition obedience,
tracking, massage and therapy dog work.
These classes begin each week with
socialization and some practice of basic
training, touching on the skills necessary
to participate in the various activities.
Then a short presentation, demonstration and
try out of the featured activity. At the end
of this 8 week course you'll know what you
want to continue with and a handout will be
given to assist you in finding further
instruction in your chosen activity.
Competition
Classes
Competition Obedience Classes
In competition obedience, dog and handler
work as a team to earn titles. Each team is
judged on accuracy, precision and enjoyment
as they perform the individual exercises.
Classes are offered for all levels including
Introduction to Competition Obedience,
Novice, Open and Utility.
Agility Classes
Agility is a great sport and fun for all.
Dogs learn to jump, climb, balance and
negotiate a whole series of obstacles.
Agility training is a great confidence
builder and a wonderful way to exercise for
both you and your dog. There are many area
competitions where you and your dog can earn
titles or you can just have fun.
Breed Handling Classes
Drop-in breed handling classes are offered
three times a week with three different
instructors. These classes will prepare you
and your dog to succeed in the confirmation
ring.
Flyball Team and Classes
Flyball is a sport for every dog that is
crazy about
tennis balls. Your dog learns to jump a set
of hurdles, hit a paddle to release a tennis
ball and then return over the hurdles with
the ball to you. Teams run relay
style with four dogs and handlers on
each team. Teams do demos and compete in
competitions.
Freestyle
Classes
If you like to dance and enjoy a little
creativity you will want to be involved in
our freestyle dance program. Dogs, too, love
to dance and possess natural rhythm. You and
your dog will learn to dance together both
in solo and group routines
